Clint: Let's go be thieves

She got the email just after waking up but went through her morning routine as normal while she mulled it over. There was no reason to believe a word of it is true. Even if it was , Kate makes it a general rule to avoid crime. Because it's hard to be a crime-fighter and a criminal all at once.

And yet...she thinks about her suit, her gear, and how weak she's felt without it.

Finally, she pulled shoes on and went to get another opinion. If anyone wanted their stuff back, it was him.

"Clint," she called and rang the bell. "You up?"

"Always." Clint actually doesn't sleep much at all and he's a little shocked that someone is looking in after him. When he realizes it's Kate, he thinks she's probably on the short list of people who would be coming after him anyway.

"What's up?"

"You got a minute?" She stepped into his room to get away from prying ears. In the event that not everyone got the 'steal things for profit!' email, she didn't want it getting around.

"Did you get an email from our illustrious wardens?"

"No, I didn't. Now I'm intrigued of course that you've been deemed worthy and I haven't," Clint says, a smile playing at his lips. "Care to share it with the rest of the class?"

Kate seems a little secretive about it which is perfectly fine with Clint. He knows what it's like to have a secret and need to keep it close to the chest.

"It is because I am so much prettier and smarter," she said wryly before swiping on her communicator and bringing up the email in question. Then she held it up for him to read.

"Interesting, don't you think?"

"Really interesting," Clint agrees. While he doesn't relish stealing anything from someone he does want his gear back. He feels like he's been missing a limb since he's been without his bow for so long and the idea of having it back makes his fingers twitch a little; he presses them against his thigh to tamp that down.

"I say we go for it. We're both trained well enough to get in and out easy."

"You think it's legit?" She looked at the email again though she'd already committed it to memory.

Kate didn't gain these skills so she could use them to steal from people. But she also really, really wants her gear back. Her belt, her boots. The suit itself. It doesn't say they can't give it back once they're done. Temporary thievery.

"Could be just to fuck with us. But then they haven't bothered with email to do that before."

"There is probably a catch," Clint agrees, "But it seems a little elaborate for there not to be some truth to it. We could give it a shot. No pun intended, or anything, but I really want my bow back."

He'd feel a hell of a lot more comfortable on the station if he had some way of defending himself if the time came.

Kate weighed the options a moment longer but, come on, if she wasn't interested she would have deleted the email in the first place.

Finally she smirked. "Alright, well, let's be bad guys then. A little breaking and entering can't be that hard."

"Not for such a good cause," Clint agrees. "We can ask forgiveness later if we have to but I'm certain many of the people of the station would...understand."

Most of them want their things back as much as he and Kate do, in some way or another.

"Do you have any ideas who we should target?"

[acalltoarms]

She looked thoughtful for a moment while mentally reviewing potential candidates. "As much as I itch for a challenge, we should probably pick someone who seems relatively harmless. Good-natured too. Maybe one of the quieter girls around here?"

Clint nods. "If we pick someone kind of quiet and unassuming, maybe she'll think she lost whatever it is and then we can sneak it back in before she realizes it got stolen?"

Clint isn't much for thinking like a criminal but he can and will do it if the cause is good and the occasion calls for it.

"Sure," Kate agreed, because it might actually work and was, at least, enough to soothe her conscience. "I don't think everyone even keeps their doors locked."

She grinned at Clint. "Did you know my costume comes with a wig? You will be very impressed."

[inhisnest]

"Maybe that's what mine's missing," he quips, grinning at her. "Too much kevlar and not enough swish in the hair."

He knows that the costume, at least for him, is part of an identity. He doesn't wear a mask, but he knows those who do, and cape and cowl become a part of a carefully-built persona that helps make the danger feel less real. It doesn't make him careless but it does give him confidence.

Grinning, she tossed her head to make her hair swish. It's not much, but it's more than he's got. "If you're lucky, I'll let you try it in on when we get our stuff back. But not the boots. They are my personal ass-kicking boots."

"I'm thinking my figure won't fill it out," Clint says. He still laughs, though, because the idea of getting his things back is so close that he can almost taste it and it's the most tangible bit of hope that he's had since winding up in this place.

"I think Natasha might have liked you, if you'd been around when she was here."
